Job offer

The CEA recruits a Scientist in:
“Plant molecular biology and physiology of drought stress”

A permanent scientist position is open in the team “Plant Environmental Physiology and Stressed Signaling” (PEPSS) within the Bioscience and biotechnology Institute of Aix-Marseille located in the Cadarache Centre, Southern France (Provence).

Mission and activities of the host team

You will benefit from the expertise of the host team PEPSS https://www.cite-des-energies.fr/en/home-biam/search/pepss/ and from the environment of the Bioscience and biotechnology Institute of Aix-Marseille (BIAM), CEA and Aix-Marseille University (https://www.cite-des-energies.fr/biam/plateformes- technologiques/). BIAM is interested in the responses of living organsims to environmental constraints and in the mechanisms of conversion of solar energy into energy-rich biomass

The PEPSS team is composed of 2 scientists, 3 engineers, 2 technicians and hosts PhD students and postdocs. The Team hosts an ionomics platform for ions dosage.

Research in PEPSS team focuses on the mechanisms and signal transduction pathways involved in drought resistance with the goal of improving plant tolerance to water stress to face the accelerating threat of global climate change. We seek a highly collaborative scientist for conducting cutting-edge research on this topic, with a strong background and a proven expertise on abiotic stress signaling in plants. The researcher will develop and lead projects that must fit into the core mission of the host team and that are associated with signaling molecules, regulatory networks, systems biology and genomics for the improvement of plant resistance to environmental stresses, especially drought stress, using Arabidopsis and other plants species.

Requirement

The position is open to candidates with a PhD in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Physiology, or a related discipline, with significant post-doctoral research experience(s) in the field of plant biology. The criteria for the selection of the candidate include a strong track record and expertise in the field of plant physiology and molecular biology, a good experience in integrative biology and a high motivation to work on the project. The ability to interact with other researchers in the team and a wide range of other people is required. The person recruited will also be expected to write grant proposals and scientific publications and will therefore also need good oral communication and writing skills. He/she will also have to supervise master students, PhD students or post-docs.

A good command of English is essential. French is not necessary in the laboratory but its learning will be recommended to facilitate the insertion in the social life.

Application procedure

Please send your application file at cite-des-energies@cea.fr, including:

  • A cover letter
  • Your recent CV including a list of publications
  • Major achievements/research contributions (2-4 pages) and general outlines of the proposal (about 1 page). The whole document (Arial 12, single space, all margins 2 cm) must not exceed 5 pages.
  • Name and contacts of 2-3 references who could provide a letter of recommendation.

Please, submit your application as a single pdf file and name the file with your last name first and the name of team (PEPSS), e.g. DUPONT_application_PEPSS.pdf.

The deadline to apply is April 16, 2023 11:00 p.m. CET.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to discuss with the host team and propose a 3-year research project (3-5-pages). Interviews of candidates will be held as of June 2023 for a position in September 2023.
